Any other pitchers who will help-

We have a number of other pitchers that are looking to get into the mix.  Max Aeschlimann and Seth McClure are two big right-handers that have the ability to jump into weekday and even weekend starts.  Jordan Hinson and Brett Bellisle are also big righty's that look to be able to step in right now either as starters or relievers and be counted on heavily.

Starters returning :3  Position players:4    Pitchers: 6

Outlook by position:

Infield -Our infield looks good with two sophomores on the right side and two very quality freshmen on the left side.  We feel good about the athleticism and savvy of these guys in the field.

Catching- Marinelli looks to be very solid behind the dish and he will be backed up by two freshmen.  All have good arms and receiving skills but need to get more reps in game conditions.

Outfield-We really like our outfield as we have gone back the philosophy of "speed and more speed".  These guys all track the ball well and have good arms.  More importantly, they all run really well and are going to be a force both in the field and on the bases.

Pitching- Questions abound here as we have some good arms but with the limited playing in the fall due to rain, we really haven't seen them as much as we would like.  A wide mix of velocities and stuff and the trick is going to be to figure out which person, when and for how long.

Schedule Highlights- Open up with Georgia Perimeter who won their conference and playing Olney Central from Illinois who is always ranked.

Key to success in '10 - With the renovation of our facility going on and taking us away from home most of the spring, I think the key is going to be learning to play on the road a lot.  This team is going to have to be VERY mentally tough in order to be able to overcome the adversity of even playing "home games" at someone else's field.  Good kids and work hard though so should be interesting...

2009 W - 38  L- 18
Starters returning : 8 Position players:  4  Pitchers: 4

Outlook by position:

Infield - Our infield will be a leadership spot this year as we will start sophomores at 3 of the 4 positions.  Troy Zawadzki and Cody Hooper gained valuable experience last year as they started the majority of the games.  Lance Rorex was a mainstay halfway through the year after Cory Stooksbury's injury.  Brandon Rader and Quentin Bomwan will split time at third base.  We will need a lot from our infield with good defense and offense if we will be successful.

Catching- All new players will do the catching this year as we returned no one.  Ryan Casteel will start as the number one and hit in the 3 hole.  Jeff Embree, Matt Sorrow, and Drew Fox are all fighting for time as well.  Fox will also have outfield duties as well.

Outfield- Adam Hindman returns as the only starter from last years squad.  Trevor Burgess, who had an outstanding fall after a red-shirt year, will be the starter in right field and Ryan Casteel may also see time there.  Centerfield will take some time to figure out as our intended starter will be out for some time due to an injury suffered in car accident.

Pitching- Pitching will be very sophomore heavy and should be a focal point of our club.  Travis Tingle will take the ball first on the weekend and is expected to have a great season coming off an All TCCAA performance last year.  Zane Leffew emerged as a go to guy after a spot role last year.  Cody Ferrell and Josh Barrett will be in the mix somewhere just depends on how it plays out.  Two transfer guys should also have an impact in Tyler Brown and Zach Driggers.

Schedule Highlights-As always our schedule is loaded with talent and will be a tough hall.  Georgia Perimeter, Young Harris, Wallace State, and USC Sumter will all be ranked at some point through out the season.

Key to success in '10 - We have to find away to be as good on the mound as we were last year.  That group set the bar high and should have had a lot more wins.  This years squad should be a lot better offensively and hopefully take some of the pressure off of the pitching staff.  Our sophomores have to step up and be leaders on and off the field, and the freshman need to find their role and understand it.  We are excited about this year and believe we should have a successful year.

2008 W -27   L- 16
Starters returning: 1   Position players: 0  Pitchers: 1

Outlook by position:

Infield - We have an interchangeable group of young men that will play throughout the year in a variety of combinations. Justin McQueen(So) is the most versatile of the bunch and will hit in the middle of our order.  Jeff Birkofer(Fr) had an outstanding fall with the glove and will push to start at short-stop.  Ethan Williams(RFr) should win a spot at 3B and anchor our offensive line-up.  Eric Lindsey(RFr) will push for time at short and third while and Cody Crutcher(So)will be in the mix at third base as well. We could have a three man rotation at second base with Blake Gentry(So), Justin Bell(So), and Mark Rayburn(Fr) battling for playing time.  Jason Collins(So) and Josh Lindsey(Fr) should push each other at first base with Baily Turner(RFr) or Tyler Turner(Fr) potentially getting a look there as well.

Catching- It will be battle between Jonathan Byrd(So), Jake Ray(Fr), and transfer Baily Turner(RFr).  I feel that Byrd and Ray made tremendous strides in the right direction over the fall.  With the addition of Turner at the break we will have healthy competition where any of the three could emerge as the starter.

Outfield- A solid group of five players will compete all year for at bats.  Depending on the day we could have three guys out there who are legitimate 6.7 runners.  Rob Holley(RFr) is coming off a great fall with the bat and should be in the line-up.  Tyler Turner(Fr) started the fall off really well offensively until sidelined with an injury.  Justin Pearson(Fr) is a one-two type hitter who swings it from both sides of the plate. I was very pleased with the progress of Blake Hayes(Fr) and he will be in the hunt each week for a starting spot.  Blake Rogers(Fr) deserves the nod in right field after the fall but will be challenged to hold it.

Pitching- Three sophomores will anchor an otherwise youthful pitching staff.  If the spring mirrors our fall then will will have a competitive group of strike throwers.  A good mix of lefties on staff should allow us to situational pitch when needed.  Andy Fennell(So) and Jason Overton(Fr) have pushed to the front of our rotation while the third starter may come down to individual match-ups.  Kaleb Pitts(Fr) had a strong fall and showed the potential to have a swing and miss pitch.  James Kessler(Fr), Casey Delgado(Fr), Josh Brown(Fr), and Josh Parker(Fr) will vie for the number three starter and mid-week opportunities.  Aaron Hyder(Fr) flashes signs of developing into a power arm and could play a number of roles for this team.  Tyler Cole(So) pitched mid-week last year and is our only returning starter.  Tyler has the ability to challenge anywhere from a weekend starter to a long relief role.  Ryne Rayburn(Fr) could easily be used in the same capacity as Cole.  Chris Henley(So) had a good a fall as anyone on staff.  Chris could see a good number of appearances as a middle relief guy. Cody Lane(Fr) and Clark Ayers(Fr) both could be seen in middle inning jams or late inning strikeout situations.  Samuel Davis(Fr) fought through some adjustments we made in his delivery to really come on towards the end of our fall.  Samuel will be one of the leading contenders for the team's closer.

Schedule Highlights-  Outside of our conference schedule we will play a strong Joliet club from Illinois in addition to Wallace State-Hanceville, Gadsden State, Calhoun, and Shoals out of a very competitive Alabama conference.

Key to success in '10 - Firstly, we must be consistent with our defensive effort.  Our pitching staff could have the potential to keep us in ballgames with solid play on defense.  Secondly, we are not a power hitting team so our ability to situational hit, aggressively run the bases, and the delivery of timely hitting will play a significant role in our capacity to score runs.

2008 W - 30  L- 20
Starters returning :  Position players: 4  Pitchers: 2

Outlook by position: We return several key positions from last year.  We should have plenty of experience throughout the line up.

Infield - Returnee's Tyler Childress, RJ Rayborn, Matt Franklin, and Chase Pilkenton all had solid seasons defensively for us last season.  Austin Townes will be a valuable infielder as well.

Catching- Transfer Ryan Seaton will be the starter with Matt Chandler and James Bellou fighting for playing time also.

Outfield- We should be solid with Longmire in center.  Several other guys will be competing for playing time.  We will go with whoever hits and can hit a cut off man.

Pitching- We should be pretty solid.  This is the most depth we have had yet.  If these guys can stay healthy they should be able to keep us in most ballgames.

Schedule Highlights-  As every coach has indicated, the conference is loaded with solid teams.  We put together a tough non conference schedule to prepare us for the weekends.  Northwest Shoals, Meramec, Itawamba, Northwest Mississippi, and Southeastern Iowa will be interesting.

2008 W 33-18
Starters returning :7  Position players: 3   Pitchers: 4

Outlook by position:

Infield - We will have the tough task of replacing a solid, productive group of middle infielders this year.  We have a young infield for the most part and we will need at least one of them to step up and have a big year at the plate for us to be where we expect.  Curt Fuqua played very well at shortstop this fall and should bolster our infield.  Brent Goode and Anthony Difelice will battle for the second base position, and Cheyenne Von Kanel will get playing time at third. Rob Maxwell, Issac Winders, and Jon Wills will also see time.

Catching- St. John transfer Josh Tutwiler will start at catcher and is expected to be in the middle of the lineup.  He did a great job this fall behind the plate, as well as handling the staff.  He is a good leader and captain on the field.  Adam Hensley will have time behind the plate as well.

Outfield- Jimmy Franklin and Josh Hattaway will be counted on the have a big year offensively.  Brian Ferrell improved throughout the fall and should make us better defensively in the outfield.

Pitching- We return a solid staff from last year. Our returning pitchers combined for over 300 innings last spring. Those returning led our staff in wins and were the guys we counted on. On paper, we are pretty good in this area. I would expect those guys to work hard and continue to lead our staff and team.

Schedule Highlights- As always, our schedule is very strong with NW Mississippi, NW Shoals, Itawamba, and the TCCAA conference schedule.

Key to success in '10 -
The key to our success will be probably like everyone else. We need to pitch and play defense well. We will have to do a better job at the plate than I saw this fall. I think chemistry is always very important and the way our team fits together will have alot to do with where we finish.

2008 W - 16  L-  28
Starters returning : 6 Position players: 4   Pitchers: 2

Outlook by position:

Infield - We have a group of Freshman surrounding returning shortstop Zac Mitchell but we have a talented group with guys still competing for spots.  We will need someone to step up and fill in for the loss of Frankie Beech who led the league last year in batting average but we will be solid and should continue to improve as the season progresses.

Catching- This is one of our positions that still hasn't been decided.  We have several guys who may end up being the every day guy.

Outfield- Our outfield is all sophomores.  I look for good things out of this group this year.  Any or all of them could have a break out year.  We also have some young talent on the verge of popping in the OF lineup so the competition is something we look forward too.

Pitching- In addition to returning our top two starters from last year, we have added a lot of quality pitching.  We will have guys competing for mid-week relief that are better than guys we have had starting in the past.  If we continue to "pitch" and learn how to pitch, we could have a solid staff.

Schedule Highlights- Besides one of the toughest conference schedules in Junior College baseball, we have several non-conference opponents such as Wallace State and some northern teams that have had a lot of success in the post season.  It will be a tough schedule.

Key to success in '10 - Continue to work hard!  This is the most success we have had in the weight room and it will pay off.  We need to build on the positives from the fall get better every day.

Outlook by position:

Infield - Experienced with good leadership this could be a strength for us this year!

Catching- Very Young but this is a position we have added depth and talent and will need a lot of innings early to be able to compete at the TCCAA Level.

Outfield- Could be the most talented OF I have had at Southwest but NOT A BIT of experience at this level. Still they are a lot of fun to watch.

Pitching- Velocity-Depth-Young and Old- Most talented group yet but need a lot of early innings with success to build resumes.

Schedule Highlights- Opening the season Jan 30-31-Players are excited to say they are playing baseball in January and they have worked very hard to get ready. Playing at Northwest Florida and any weekend we play TCCAA!

Key to success in '10 - This team for me has been the most fun to coach! They have produced in the classroom and on the field! This group by far (top to bottom) is the most talented group and hardest working baseball team I have been able to coach! Our coaching staff comments 3-4 times a week what a awesome job it is to coach and be around this group of student athletes!!!! I have no doubt that this will produce great things for this team in 2010.

Starters returning :  Position players: 3   Pitchers: 3

Outlook by position:

Infield - Infield should be solid with Division I transfers Garrett Koster and Shaun Ball up the middle. A couple of freshman draft picks in Corey Davis and Chris Costantino will be on the corners, with Adam Guinn and Coty Pate seeing considerable time there as well.

Catching- Sophomores Wes Walker and Dylan Pratt will handle the duties here, both are tremendous leaders behind the plate and both do an excellent job handling our pitchers.

Outfield- Sam Munson moves to right field after starting at SS for us last year, and his tremendous tools will be best utilized out there. Pratt will see time in LF when not catching. Logan Bowers and Dalton Irwin will play center with one of them playing left when Pratt catches.

Pitching- We will need some guys to really step up here. Sophomore returnees Will Scott, Cullen Park, and Michael White will have to have big years for us to be successful. Clemson transfer Kyle Deese will need to fill a big role as well, as will freshman Chris Costantino, who was a surprise on the mound after being drafted as a third baseman.

Schedule Highlights- Non-conference schedule includes 6 games against Chipola (ranked 2nd), Middle Georgia (ranked 5th), and Spartanburg Methodist (ranked 8th), as well as St Petersburg. Those games won't be any tougher than weekends in the TCCAA.

Key to success in '10 - We have a lot of unproven players at the college level on this team, and the freshmen will have to grow up fast. Just like always, the biggest key is on the mound. If our pitchers throw strikes and compete, then we have chance to be successful.
