Team Previews

Gallatin HS   9aaa   12-20         1/7

Pitching depth will be a plus this season. Gallatin returns 5 starting pitchers with experience in RH Chandler McCauley, LH Tyler Scott, LH Kaleb Hammock, RH Tyler Blumenthal, and RH Evan Jones. The 6'6 McCauley has signed with Tennessee Tech and struck out 49 batters in 39 IP last season. Scott and Hammock give GHS two solid left-handed starters with experience, while Jones and Blumenthal each won district starts last season. Jones is a hard-throwing Sophomore who started several games as a Freshman. Blumenthal picked up a pair of key district wins. Junior RHP Ethan Chambers is a talented arm who will also see plenty of innings along with Junior RHP Kilgore Galmard, a JP II transfer.
The pitching staff will also feature a trio of talented Sophomores in RH William Bender, RH Ben Tatum and RH Zack Baker. Bender has plus arm strength, while Baker and Tatum show excellent command with off-speed pitches.
The Green Wave lineup returns several starters from 2009. All 9AAA outfielder Tyler Scott hit 6HR last year, and will be anchored in the outfield by Hammock and Senior Joey Williams. Hammock has led GHS in OBP the past 2 seasons, while Williams hit .380 last season. Juniors Mike Burton (2b, .325) and Ethan Chambers (1b-3b-C, .276) return to the lineup along with Junior Tyler Blumenthal (2b-SS). Junior transfer Kilgore Galmard had an excellent summer, and his LH bat should sit somewhere in the middle of the GHS lineup, and he can play multiple positions. A pair of Sophomores return to man the left side of the infield, after becoming starters as Freshmen. Bender and Jones will both see time at SS and 3B. Both are excellent athletes and versatile players, each batting over .300 as Freshmen. Junior Clint Spano will take over duties behind the dish. Spano is a solid receiver and very intelligent. Spano proved to be a clutch hitter at times for GHS as well. Junior Ethan Chambers is a physical talent behind the plate and may see time there. Sophomore Austin Matthews a tough kid who will join the Varsity as well. Junior Hunter Goad is an athletic two-sport player who could win some time in the outfield, along with Sophomore Tanner Sandel. Sandel could be a premium defender for Gallatin, and will push for the job in CF.
The Green Wave had several young players make an impact last season, and make the 2010 team very deep. Gallatin had an excellent summer together, and older players will have to work hard to earn spots, and even share playing time. If team chemistry goes well, Gallatin could be a contender in 2010.

Clarksville NE   10aaa   19-13    1/11

The 2010 Eagles baseball team will rely heavily on pitching and defense. Last years team went 19-13, and had only 3 seniors, 2 starters.  We return our top 5 pitchers, led by KENNETH RITTENBERRY. KENNETH will be a top of a deep rotation that has lots of var-sity experience. TYLER GILLUM will be the number 2 starter. These two guys have great stuff, and will compete with anyone in our district. We return our entire infield, which played excellence defense last season.  Our second baseball JACOB LANE will be counted on to provide an offensive spark, along with his solid defense. Senior DUSTIN HUNTER will return as the shortstop, his second season as the starter there. He has great hands and range to bring to the position. Sophomore outfielder DOMINICK VELTRI returns as our top hitter. He is a left handed hitter with excellent hands, and can hit the ball to all fields. Our catcher, junior, KEVIN NUNEZ returns as our team leader. KEVIN has been our starting catcher since his freshman season. Junior JUSTIN FRAWLEY will fill in for one of our outfield spots that graduated last year. He brings good athleticism and speed to the outfield.  Senior third-baseman JOSEPH PORTER will enter his 4th straight season as a starter.  PORTER will also be our top reliever. With 5 pitchers returning, and all but one of our top 9 defensive players, the eagles should have the experience needed to make a run this season. We have been working hard this off-season in the weight-room to improve our strength, and the guys are very excited for the season to get underway.

Mt. Juliet  9aaa   31-13         1/2

The 2010 Mt. Juliet Bears will have to replace a few key players from the 2009 State Runner-Up team.  The 2010 team will return 5 starters and a couple other players that saw significant playing time.  We will also return 5 of our top 6 pitchers. Our senior class is experienced and should lead us in the right direction. Memphis signee (SS/P)Ethan Gross (.385/5/31), Vanderbilt signee (RHP/2B/3B)Jake Harper(.316/2/20), (RHP/3B)Logan Gray (.290/2/21), (OF)Logan Dalton(.290/4/24), (C)Justin Lopez(.300/0/12), TJ Diffenderfer (1B/DH), Brad Osborne (OF), and Landon Trotter (C/DH) are all senior position players that will get significant time. Senior Pitchers (RHP)Jake Porter (1-1), (LHP)Taylor Wilson (0-1),(RHP) Oliver Glaser (0-1), will also help (RHP)Jake Harper (9-1/1.7ERA/70 K's), (RHP)Logan Gray (4-2/2 saves), and (RHP)Ethan Gross (2 saves) on the mound. We also have a few juniors and sophomores that saw action last year that will help us out a bunch if they step up.       (JR//RHP)Cody Carroll (4-4/3.5 ERA), (JR/INF/OF) Kevin Combs, (JR/OF) Mikee Brown, and (SO/LHP) Josh Smith, are looking to step in and help. Hopefully, our experience and leadership will be a strength for us.  We have high expectations for 2010 and are looking forward to the season.

Hendersonville  9aaa  18-14     1/25

HHS will be led in 2010 by a group of nine seniors who all have two or three years of playing experience This group of veterans along with a few key younger players will hope to lead HHS out of the middle of the pack in district 9AAA. Pitching should be an area of strength for the Commandos with senior left handers Zac Curtis and Dennis Jones leading the staff. The two left handers have won the District 9AAA LHP pitcher of the year award for the last two years. They will be joined by senior Matt Griggs and junior Adam Dorris as the main-stays in the pitching rotation in 2010.
Hendersonville will return several key position players in 2010.  All-District player and Walters State signee Daniel Tucker will anchor the infield along with another three-year starter in senior Austin Harris. Tucker and Harris will be important factors in setting the table offensively for HHS as well. In the outfield three-year starter Colton Mansfield will return along with senior transfer and Murray State signee Wes Warren. These two should combine to give HHS a solid defensive outfield and provide much needed offense. Senior Britte Underwood will take over full-time behind the plate in 2010.  Underwood will hit in the middle of the order and will be solid behind the plate. District 9AAA will be as tough as ever and that schedule alone will be tough enough. HHS will compete in the Wilson Co Invitational for the first time, make a return trip to the always competitive Warrior Classic and make a trip to Pleasure Ridge Park in Louisville for a tough weekend. Should be an exciting year in the newly aligned 9AAA and very competitive as usual.

Rossview   10aaa   18-12      2/1

Rossview will be looking to improve on its 18-12 2009 campaign this coming season. To accomplish this, the Hawks will rely on a mixture of upper classmen on the mound and a mixture of old and young in the lineup.  Starting with the rotation, Rossview will rely on upper classmen such as Andrew Padgett, Cody Greene, Tyler Stewart, Dylan Stewart, Austin Atwell, Alex Martin, John Logan, and sophomore Kyle Weldon to compete for spots. Behind the dish, senior Zach Dunn and a group of young catchers will help anchor the Hawks defense. Both Tyler Newlove (10AAA All-District performer) and Coleman Chapman will hold down first base, while the middle will be made up primarily of younger guys with little or no varsity experience (Dray Knight (So.), Alex Martin (Jr) - SS/Jared Plunkett (Jr), Tanner Kint (So) - 2B). Though the hot corner has yet to be decided it will probably come down to which guy gives us good defense and a better bat.  Sr. Barton Moquin (who will also help us at the end of games on the mound), Jr. Wes Morehead, and So. Tanner Kint will compete for this position. As for  the outfield (which should be one of our strong suits defensively) we will basically use a rotation of players depending on whose on the bump that night. Tanner Kint, Austin Atwell, Dylan and Tyler Stewart and others will help hold down this part of the defense. As for the season, it depends on whether the team/players decide to compete day in and day out and whether they have the internal discipline to do what it takes to be successful.

Team Previews

Independence 11aaa    28-10        2/25

Independence returns 4 starters from the everyday lineup from a year ago.  Pitching staff returns a good duo, with Dylan Toscano and Brian Miller.  Both are coming off break-out seasons from last year.  Ford Wilson will log more innings this year as he will move into number 3 in the rotation.  There will be some new faces in the lineup, but guys that are very capable of filling in for past graduates.  Juniors Adam Lee and Jake Todd will be permanent fixtures in the infield and behind the plate respectfully.  Seniors Josh Lee, Ty Stannard, Ford Wilson and Chase Hodges should help with supplying some offensive punch to the line-up.
Biggest question for Indy is finding outfield depth, as all three OF starters will see plenty of time on the mound.

Brentwood    11aaa    20-16        2/25

This will be the Bruins first season in 25 years without former head coach Nick Waggoner at the helm. The Bruins will be returning 3 fulltime starters last year.  Seniors LHP Vanderbilt commitment Robbie Ray(2.67 ERA,68Ks, .365 BA, 27H), who also lead the Bruins in hitting, catcher Ryan Shelton who set a single season homerun record with 13  (.365 BA28 RBI, 35 H) and JR SS/OF/P Tyson Ashcraft (.327 BA, 9 2Bs, 37 H). Ashcraft will also be looked on to help the Bruins on the mound. Other retuning players include SR P/1B Jackson Bruck, SR 2B/SS Dallas Wilson, SR CF Elliott West (.300BA), and JR 3B/2B Tyler Richardson.  Newcomers JR Clay Weber and SO Ryan Whitt will vie for playing time as well.

Ravenwood     11aaa    17-13       1/7

Ravenwood will be lead by 4 seniors. Nate Kukowski Sr.(committed to Brown University) will lead the Raptors on the mound. Kukowski finished last season with a 1.41 ERA. When not pitching he will be the teams shortstop. Also on the mound for the Raptors will be Sr. Ryan Fitzpatrick.  Ryan is a left-hander that will be a 3 year starter and play the outfield.  Ravenwood's biggest offensive returnee is Jr. Richard Carter. Carter hit .360 last season as a sophomore. Preston Cater will be back for his Jr. season after spot starting in both his Freshman and sophomore seasons. Chase Denton is a power threat and will look to solidify the infield this season. Other guys that could weigh in on Ravenwood's success will be Jr. Ian Kukowski and So. Ben Brock. Ravenwood will be looking for big contributions from their Junior class, they will have 12 Juniors on the roster.  With only 4 starters returning and playing in a highly competitive district Ravenwood will have to mature quickly to compete for a district title.

McGavock  11aaa    15-13          1/25

We lost 9 seniors from the 2009 team. We have a few holes in the infield and outfield to fill. We will have to find a DH,1B,2B,CF for 2010. We have our top 2 pitchers return-ing in Casey Cooper (7-5,67K in 60 innings, 2.88ERA) Matt Ford (3-4, 35K in 43 innings, 3.39ERA)Our top returning players are Mac Merritt-SS(.402BA, 19 RBI), Charlie Rose-OF,(.304BA,15BB) Jimmy Fountaine-3B,.313BA) Kevin Martin-C(.400BA). We will be young with only 4 seniors and 3 juniors but our pitching staff should be deeper than in past years.
